There’s a lot of branded merchandise people accept because it’s free… and then there are the pieces they actually use.
The difference usually isn’t the logo. It’s whether the product was worth owning in the first place. That’s where custom drinkware has an advantage: it’s useful, it lives naturally in someone’s home, and when it’s done well, it doesn’t really feel like promotional merchandise at all.
Think about the branded products you’ve actually kept. You probably didn’t keep them because you loved the logo. You kept them because the product itself was good.
ASI’s 2026 research found that 78% of U.S. consumers would keep a promotional product because it’s useful.
That makes drinkware a pretty easy case to make. A great rocks glass gets pulled out for a cocktail. A coffee mug becomes part of a morning routine. A beer glass gets used long after the event where someone received it.
This is where branded merchandise can go wrong.
PPAI found that 44% of consumers prefer subtle branding to large, bold logos. That makes sense. If you want someone to use something in their home, it should look like it belongs there.
A thoughtfully placed logo on a beautiful glass still keeps a brand visible. It just doesn't make the person using it feel like they're drinking out of an advertisement.
How the design is applied matters, too. The difference between engraving and etching can have a noticeable impact on the depth, texture and overall finish of custom glassware.
You can put the exact same glasses in a shipping carton or a beautiful gift box. Same product. A completely different experience.
Good packaging makes branded merchandise feel like something selected rather than something distributed.
That was a big consideration behind Crystal Imagery’s new gift boxes. Whether the glasses are going to clients, employees, event attendees or hotel guests, they arrive looking like a finished gift, not a promotional product that needs to be repackaged.
Before putting your logo on something, ask: Would someone still want this if our logo weren’t on it? If the answer is yes, you’re probably onto something.
PPAI’s consumer research backs that up: usefulness and quality are major factors in what people keep versus what eventually gets tossed.
Crystal Imagery creates custom glassware designed to be kept, used and enjoyed. Each design is deeply sandcarved into the glass, creating real depth and texture rather than a design that simply sits on the surface.

But every once in a while, you get something you actually want to keep.
">We’ve all left an event with something branded that went straight into a drawer - or, realistically, never made it out of the tote bag.
But every once in a while, you get something you actually want to keep.
